If first impressions mean anything, the Eagles may be poised for a breakout season.
They took down Luther 26-19 in the season opener. But now comes back to back road games against ranked teams.
UW-La Crosse travels to 12th ranked St. Thomas Saturday, a team they lost to 46-0 last year.
But the Eagles seem to be better equipped offensively this time around. They rolled up almost 400 yards of offense against Luther. Last year they could muster only 138 total yards in their loss at St. Thomas.
"When you look at the little passes we had, even to Mike Santucci, are really considered runs when it comes down to it. We're still a ground-based offense but, we want to take the guys we have and utilize them to the best of their abilities," said head coach Joel Dettwiler.
It just comes down to a matter of executing when your number is called. I think we can do a good job of that. It's definitely a different bunch than last year. Physically, I think we're way more equipped to go up there and get a 'W," Santucci said.
The Eagles will try to go to 2-0 when they play the Tommies in St. Paul Saturday.
Kickoff set for 1:10 p.m.
