Another daunting task awaits the Eagles, who will head out on the road to play a ranked team for the second week in a row.
They travel to Texas to play 4th-ranked Mary-Hardin Baylor Saturday.
They'll do it without starting quarterback Trent Cummings because of a head injury. Andrew Thompson and John Tackett figure to split the snaps under center.
They've been down this road before. Last year, one or both saw action in five games when Cummings was hurt. So Thompson and Tackett know the drill.
"It's obviously a great thing to be a freshman and on the field against one of the best teams last year. I guess maturing over the last year and growing up and becoming a better quarterback for this team is my goal," Thompson said.
"They're seasoned kids with what they went through last year. The offensive line and the offense trusts them. They should know what's going on. We have full faith in them. That's one benefit to guys who have that experience. They're ready to go and I would expect no drop off," said UW-L head coach Joel Dettwiler.
Mary-Hardin Baylor has won all three of the previous meetings between the two programs.
