Kindergarten and early learning students at Goodview Elementary School in Winona, MN will be able to learn about technology through interactive play thanks to the Tools for Schools award. Stephanie Gilliland, a Kindergarten and Early Education Teacher at Goodview Elementary is this month’s winner of the $500 dollar award from WXOW, Brenengen Auto, and SSE Music.
Gilliland said she will be putting the money toward the purchase of KIBO robot kits. She said, "It is very developmentally appropriate to use technology in early childhood when we have the correct tools, but that doesn't mean we have to do more screen time or more apps on the iPad. It just means that we have to give them those tools to stimulate them." She continued, "We're going to bring a KIBO-robotic into the classroom so they can build. They can use the manipulative, use the tangibles, the wooden blocks to program a robot to do what they want, and get ready to move into future engineers that we need in the world."
