Students a North Woods International Elementary School joined in the on the Oktoberfest fun Friday.
Each month, students learn about a different area of the world. For October, students are learning about the cultural heritage of Germany, including traditions like Oktoberfest.
Friday, about 200 students learned about the history of the festival, created their own lederhosens and dirndls, and sampled traditional German foods.
They ended the school day with a dance party out on the playground featuring traditional polka music.
"Obviously we're in school to learn, but we also want them to have fun and feel like part of a community. So that's kind of the goal of today. At our school, we do a big focus on international curriculum and learning about other countries and other festivals," said North Woods International School Teacher Kate Hopper.
This year's school-wide theme is "we all need friends," which also ties into their international focus.
