La Crosse, WI (WXOW) -

John Tackett threw for three touchdowns in relief Saturday as the Eagles outlasted UW-Stout 28-21 on Saturday at Roger Harring Stadium.

UW-L (2-3, 1-1 WIAC) beat the Blue Devils for the fourth season in a row.

Freshman Drew David started at quarterback for the Eagles, but was shaken up on the team's first possession and left the game. Tackett came on in relief and led the Eagles to a pair of second quarter touchdowns. He finished the day 24-34 with 247 yards passing and three touchdown passes.

Tyler Jenkins opened the scoring with a 2-yard touchdown run early in the second quarter. The Eagles increased the lead to 14-0 in the final minute of the half when Tackett connected with Nolan Bargender for a 2-yard touchdown.

Stout cut into the lead early in the third quarter on a Jordan Dabney 24-yard touchdown catch, but Tackett answered with a 21-yard strike to Joel Oxton to give UW-L a 21-7 lead heading into the fourth quarter.

The Blue Devils closed to within 21-14 with 9:03 to play after Enzo Rosani picked up a blocked Eagles field goal try and returned it 75 yards for a score. It was the second week in a row the Eagles had a kick blocked.

Tackett led the Eagles down the field once more however and put the game away when he connected with Samuel Zwieg for a 8-yard touchdown pass with 4:23 remaining.

UW-L now travels to UW-Whitewater on Friday. The Warhawks fell 10-7 to UW-Oshkosh on Saturday, snapping a 36-game win streak.
