Central girls tennis hoping for big finish at State

The state tournament season rolls on this weekend with Wisconsin's top girls tennis players taking center stage at the WIAA Individual State Meet.

The action starts Thursday in Madison.

Central will send three players to state.

Maura Andersen will compete in singles as will the doubles team of Shira Busch and Kate Heise. It's the culmination of a season-long goal and for all three, it's a return trip to state.

"I worked really hard in the off season.  It was a goal of mine to get back to state this year and get back to sectionals.  I'm excited I was able to achieve that," said Andersen.

"It was always a goal to get back down there.  Just like early on I always knew it was a goal of mine," Heise.

"I feel like Kate and I have done a good job.  I don't know exactly what we're going to come across at State.  But I hope we can get farther than we did last year," said Busch.

The meet concludes Saturday at the Nielson Tennis Stadium.
