Despite another tough night running the ball, the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse football team pressured No. 6 UW-Whitewater well into the second half Friday night, ultimately falling 30-12 at Perkins Stadium.
The Eagles (2-4, 1-2 WIAC) were held to 59 yards rushing against the top-ranked run defense in the conference, but managed to pull within 16-12 early in the third quarter when sophomore quarterback John Tackett found Joel Oxton for a 6-yard touchdown pass. Tackett threw for 232 yards and a touchdown, but also three interceptions, in his first start of the season.
The Warhawks scored the game's first 16 points before Tyler Jenkins scored a 2-yard rushing touchdown late in the second half, capping a 12-play, 73-yard drive.
The Eagles took their first possession of the second half 77 yards on 10 plays for another score.
Whitewater put the game out of reach in the fourth quarter on a Tyler Glass 21-yard run.
UW-L will now host UW-Eau Claire on Saturday, October 24. You can watch the game on WXOW 19.
