Don't be surprised to see the Eagles air it out a little more Saturday when they host UW-Eau Claire. They've averaged 40 pass attempts over the last three games.
That's compared to just 28 rushing attempts per game over that span.
It's more a by-product of their personnel. The Eagles are deep at receiver led by senior Joel Oxton. Oxton leads the WIAC in receptions with 38. He has 31 catches for 361 yards and three touchdowns in the last three games. Expect to see a lot of Oxton and a lot of the passing game the rest of the season.
"The strength's he brings to the table are his calmness and maturity. He's a coaches kid, really understands the game. He can make adjustments on the field easily. He doesn't get too rattled and is a guy who steps up and makes the big play when it's time to," said Oxton.
"We've played some really good defenses, tough to run against. We've kind of realized our receivers, me Sam Zwieg, Michael Santucci and others, are the strength of our offense. I think (offensive coordinator) Coach Hoskins has decided to air it out a little more. I think so far it's worked pretty well," said head coach Joel Dettwiler.
The Eagles and Blugolds kickoff at 11:30 AM Saturday at Harring Stadium.
You can watch the game live on WXOW 19 starting at 11 AM with the pregame show.
