La Crosse Aquinas volleyball is a regional champion for the second year in a row.
This year's team did so with a much different makeup, as the Blugolds only have one senior on the roster, Emilie Steingraeber.
Even with seven juniors and five sophomores, coach Bri Ebenhoe said there's plenty of experience on her roster.
She added it also comes down to wanting to perform just as well as the girls before them.
"The girls from last year want to do just as much as we did last year and more. That's a great core and a baseline to work with," Ebenhoe said. "It's the younger girls wanting to keep up tradition and building the program and these kids have done an extraordinary job."
For Steingraeber, being the lone senior leader was a unique challenge at first. She credits junior co-captain Meghan Mazzola for helping the team come together this season.
"Teamwork, just working together and coming off of last year, finding our rhythm and all that, and I think we did and it's awesome, I love it," Steingraeber said. "They're great support. They're awesome."
Aquinas will face Eau Claire Regis on Thursday in the sectional semifinals. The game will be held at Cochrane-Fountain City at 7 p.m.
