Eau Claire, WI (WQOW) - A rapidly developing storm system will likely produce several inches of snow in southern Wisconsin, Iowa, and northern Illinois.
Stormtracker 18 Weather meteorologists say the storm will produce snow in Iowa and extreme southern Minnesota on Friday afternoon, and southern Wisconsin and northern Illinois on Friday night and Saturday morning. This includes the cities of Des Moines, Waterloo, Dubuque, Prairie du Chien, Madison, Milwaukee, Chicago, and Rockford. Four to 8 inches of snow are possible with isolated higher amounts of 10 inches.
In Eau Claire and most of west central Wisconsin, flurries could fall on Friday night, but little to no accumulation is expected. Please refer to the "snow potential" map attached to this story.
Travel is not recommended in Iowa on Friday afternoon and evening, and southern Wisconsin on Friday night and Saturday morning. Roads will be snow-covered and slippery, and the visibility will be low at times. The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Watch, which will likely be upgraded to a warning or Winter Weather Advisory in the near future.
