Jackson County (WQOW) - Testimony ended Thursday in the trial of Steven Dolan, the driver accused of killing Nate Walsh, a tow truck driver who was working along I-94 near Osseo last October when he was hit.
News 18 spoke with the defense attorney, Eric Sheets, who said Walsh's death was an accident and not a criminal act.
Among the witnesses that testified Thursday, Michael Marquardt, an investigator with Wisconsin State Patrol. He talked about a personal conversation with Dolan after the crash. He said Dolan was very cooperative, emotional, and appeared to be genuinely sad. Marquardt said the only red flag was that Dolan was unable to remember the moments leading up to the crash, even though he had no injuries.
According to Marquardt, Dolan only remembers looking in his left-hand mirror, then feeling a bump on the right-side of his truck.
Wisconsin State Trooper and Crash Reconstruction Specialist Derrek Hanson believes Dolan was traveling 69 mph before the crash. He showed the court pictures he took of the scene and affirmed that Dolan's pickup sideswiped Walsh and his tow truck.
Hanson said Walsh was most likely in a downward position, possibly leaning over while trying to hook up the disabled car. Hanson said Walsh had multiple blunt force trauma injuries all over his body, and several broken bones.
The defense decided not to call on any witnesses Thursday, the jury will begin deliberation Friday.
