Max Stockwell scored 32 points and the Hillsboro Tigers came into Bangor and knocked off the Cardinals 74-64 Friday night in a battle of unbeaten squads.
The Tigers (9-0, 5-0 Scenic Bluffs) now stand alone atop the conference after beating the Cardinals for the first time since the WIAA Regionals in March 2014.
"We're a lot of experienced guys, we know how to play off their runs," Stockwell said afterward. "Coaches put together a great gameplan and we stuck to it. That's what got us the win. It was special because we're both undefeated teams, ranked #2 and #3 in the state. This was my first team beating Bangor in the regular season, so it's pretty special to me"
Hunter Stanek scored 16 points to help Hillsboro maintain a double-digit lead for most of the second half. The Tigers led 38-31 at the break.
The teams will meet again February 18 at Hillsboro High School. Next week, Bangor travels to Division 4's 2nd-ranked team, Melrose-Mindoro, while Hillsboro travels to Necedah.
