Kobe King scored 28 points and Bailey Kale added 19 as the La Crosse Central Red Raiders beat the Onalaska Hilltoppers 76-59 Friday night at John Shelton Court.
Central (4-1 MVC, 11-2 overall) led 32-31 at halftime thanks to Kale's buzzer-beater 3 pointer. The Red Raiders carried that momentum into the early portions of the second half, building a 37-31 lead at the 16:50 mark.
Onalaska made a few runs to remain within striking distance, but King and Kale were able to respond each time down the stretch.
It was Central's first win at Onalaska since the 2013-14 season.
"It was a great team win. Everyone played their hearts out and I think we deserved that win," senior Austin Aiden said. "We know they're a hard-competing team and they're going to bring it every single night. We just got the better of them tonight though."
Austin had seven points and two rebounds. Freshman Noah Parcher added 11 points and two rebounds.
Onalaska was led by Jalen Zubich's 14 points and Noah Fedrickson's 13. Central out-rebounded the Hilltoppers 37-24 and had a 19-10 advantage in bench points.
Central will host Tomah on Tuesday night at Sutton Gymnasium. Onalaska will visit Holmen on Tuesday.
