The UW-La Crosse men's basketball team started fast and never looked back on their way to a 66-54 win over UW-River Falls at Mitchell Hall Wednesday night.
The win moved the Eagles into a first place tie with Falcons in the WIAC.
Both teams are 5-2 in conference play.
The Eagles began the game on a 13-2 run and led by 9 at the half.
Jared Staege had 14 points in the first half alone.
He was one of four players in double figures for the Eagles.
Devin Yurk led the way 19 points and 10 rebounds.
Ben Meinholz had 15 points while Austin Fritz chipped in 10.
"Big win for us. We were picked for the bottom of the conference this year. Just getting out here and showing the fans what we have, we had a good crowd tonight. Just getting after it and playing hard and it's exciting to be on top right now," said Yurk.
"It's early. There's still a lot of games left. But this is a good one from a momentum standpoint. It's good to hold home court here and play well. I thought our guys played really aggressive and battled hard and that's important," said head coach Ken Koelbl.
