Jesse Solberg scored 28 points and the Westby Norse kept pace in the Coulee Conference title race with a 56-50 win over rival Viroqua on Friday night.
Westby (7-1 Coulee, 12-3 overall) remains a half-game out of first place in the conference behind G-E-T (7-0). The Redhawks beat the Norse last weekend at the Coulee Conference Classic. The teams will meet again in late February in Westby to end the regular season.
On Friday, Westby took a 9-point lead into halftime, but had to hold off a persistent Blackhawks team down the stretch. Michael Lampman scored 21 points to lead Viroqua, and Zach Drake's layin with 1:30 left made it a 5-point game.
Some late free throws by Dylan Weninger helped seal the win for Westby, which is now 5-1 at home this season.
"It was a big win for us, no matter the records. I think we keep inching closer to Coulee Conference, up and up," Weninger said afterward. "I think Coulee Classic was a wake-up call, we can improve. We learned some stuff that we can improve on and I thought we did some stuff good tonight, so stepping stones to the end of the season."
Travis Hofslien and Ross Stalsberg each added 10 points for Westby.
