UPDATE: La Crosse Police identify woman found dead Sunday, drug overdose likely

The La Crosse Police Department identify the woman found dead on the 800 block of 6th Street S. Sunday as 29-year-old Mellisa J. Dobrunz.

Police said an autopsy was conducted Tuesday, and toxicology reports are not expected to be returned for several weeks.

La Crosse Police Investigators along with the La Crosse County Medical Examiner's office are continuing to investigate the death. Police said the preliminary investigation shows Dobrunz likely died from an illegal drug overdose.
 



Illegal drugs played a role in the death of a 29-year-old La Crosse woman found dead Sunday afternoon in a La Crosse parking lot.

La Crosse Police said officers and first responders were called to the 800th block of 6th Street South around 1 p.m. for a report of an unconscious woman laying in a parking lot. 

First responders performed CPR but the woman was pronounced dead on scene. 

Monday afternoon, La Crosse Police said their preliminary investigation showed the woman likely died from an illegal drug overdose.

They are continuing to investigate the woman's death.

Her name hasn't been released.
