Mike Schmidt showed the passion and positive energy to turn his alma matter around as its new head coach, but now the work truly begins in rebuilding the Eagles football program.
Schmidt said at his introductory press conference on Friday that he wants to emphasize recruiting local players, and securing ties with their high school coaches.
He is excited to rebuild some lost connections, and take local prospects under his wing.
"We are going to recruit Coulee Region players, we're going to get them here, we're going to develop them as students and as athletes and people," Schmidt said. "The coaches are going to be a huge part of that process, I hope. I hope they're on board, I can't wait to get them here. I can't wait to see them, because a lot of them are my friends. A lot of them are my friends already and I can't wait to see them in this role now."
The Eagles open the 2016 on Saturday, September 3 at Luther College.
