Eagles shoot down Falcons; extend lead in the WIAC

River Falls, Wis. (WXOW) -

The UW-La Crosse men's basketball team strengthened it's hold on first place in the WIAC with an 87-77 win at UW-River Falls Wednesday night.  

Ben Meinholz had 24 points to lead the Eagles.

Devin Yurk had 22 and Jared Staege 20 for UW-L, who led 46-40 at the half.

The Eagles shot 55 percent from the field for the game and made 12 of 21 three-point shots.

The win, coupled with Eau Claire's loss at Oshkosh, gives the Eagles a two-game lead a top the WIAC at 9-2 with three games to go.

River Falls, Eau Claire and Oshkosh are all 7-4.

The Eagles will host Oshkosh on Saturday.
