La Crosse Doctor Talks About the Dangers of Heroin Use

Posted: Updated:
La Crosse, WI (WXOW) -

Dr. Chris Eberlein has treated people who overdosed after using illegal drugs.  Dr. Eberlein recently told us, we may now see heroin laced with fentanyl in the community.  Fentanyl is a synthetic narcotic.  If it's added to heroin, Eberlein says it makes a usual dose much more potent.

He says the evidence it's in the community is anecdotal.  But he's talking about it now, because in the time it takes to know for certain, people could die.

Eberlein is part of  a special community drug forum in La Crosse February 29.  It's called, "A Night for Hope."  Other experts will join Dr. Eberlein and you'll hear from a family whose son struggled with drug and alcohol use for years before he decided to get help.

"A Night of Hope" is at the Waterfront Cargill Center from 6 until 8 PM.  It's free, but you should register for the event by February 26.  You can register by calling 608-785-9872.  You can also send an email to abliss@lacrossecounty.org.
