Before Jackie Page was 18 she was already leaving her mark in Sparta. Jackie is a senior at Sparta High School where is is known for being an all around athlete, a great student and an exceptional volunteer.
Four years ago Jackie joined the Earth Club and took the group to new heights, even convincing the school to get a food waste dehydrator.
"It's kind of a messy job but looking back we were just saying we can't believe we ever done lunch before without it," said Jackie.
The machine grinds up the left over food into compost used by area growers. While Jackie loves green causes she does so much more and says you can't let life get in the way.
"I know a lot of the challenges is in high school we get busy and a lot of people have jobs and are involved in many organizations. But it's putting your feet down. Making deadlines for yourself, that's a big thing I learned over the years...having deadlines and holding yourself accountable," said Jackie.
For that reason and many more faculty at Sparta High School say they'll miss her.
"She's a woman who is extremely motivated, extremely responsible. She always gives 110 percent...always," said Teacher and Earth Club Advisor Joe Cook.
Principal Sam Russ says Jackie will be unforgettable. "There's a big hole at Sparta High School to fill her shoes but I think collectively, together as a group I think we will be able to move forward and continue the great things that she's done," said Russ.
