UPDATE: Sparta shooting victim identified, suspects in custody

The Sparta Police Department has issued a correction to one of the homicide suspects names.

In a previous release, the department named Douglas Turner Wood as a suspect, but the actual name is Turner Douglas Wood. 

Wood's name and address remain the same. 

The victim of the Tuesday, May 17 shooting in Sparta has been identified as Adam M. Garcia, 27, of Sparta, WI. 

Douglas Turner Wood, 22, is in custody and being held in the Monroe County Jail for First Degree Homicide. 

Matthew James Robert Rasmussen, 22, is also in custody. Rasmussen is being held in the Monroe County Jail for First Degree Homicide and Armed Robbery. 

Wood and Rasmussen will have their initial court appearances on Friday, May 20, at 1:00 p.m. 

The investigation is still ongoing. 

Officials in Juneau County have arrested a possible suspect in the fatal shooting of a man in Sparta Tuesday morning.

The Juneau County Sheriff's Department, Wisconsin Department of Criminal Investigations and the Monroe County Tactical Unit assisted in making the arrest.   The investigation is ongoing and more information will be released later.

One person is dead following a shooting at a home in Sparta Tuesday morning.

Chief David Kuderer said in a statement that officers were sent to a home at 508 North Water Street for a report of a person who had been shot. 

Officers found a man in the home, on the floor, unconscious, with a gunshot wound.

He was taken to Mayo Hospital in Sparta where he was later pronounced dead. An autopsy is underway in Madison Tuesday afternoon.

The victim's name has not been released by police.

The statement from Chief Kuderer said their investigation shows this appears to be an isolated incident. The suspect in the shooting is still at large.

The statement said that police "feel that the Sparta community is not in any immediate danger at this time."

Besides Sparta Police, the state Division of Criminal Investigation, Monroe County, FBI and Wisconsin State Patrol are assisting with the investigation.

One person is dead in a shooting in Sparta Tuesday morning.

The shooting occurred at a residence at 510 N. Water Street.

Sparta Police aren't commenting on the circumstances surrounding the shooting. The name of the victim has not been released.

Witnesses tell News 19 that the shooting is drug related.
