Eagles sweep WIAC awards; look ahead to Regionals

La Crosse, WI (WXOW) -

The NCAA Div. III Midwest Regionals will start Wednesday but already the Eagles have earned a clean sweep.

They swept the WIAC postseason awards.

Taylor Kohlwey won Position Player of the Year, Caleb Boushley was named Pitcher of the Year and head coach Chris Schwarz was named the conference Coach of the Year.

Of course, the Eagles know all that means nothing when they take the field tomorrow in the first round of the Midwest Regional Tournament.

UW-L will take on Beloit College at Copeland park where the Eagles are 18-2 this season.

"It's pretty beneficial to have it here.  We get to sleep in our own beds, all our parents will be here and the home fans.  We know this ballpark and it's fun to play here.  So, it's pretty fun," said Kohlwey.

"The ultimate goal is to get back to the World Series and get back to where we were last year.  It was a good warm-up, but we have our eyes on a bigger prize," said first baseman Justin Anderson.

The Eagles and Beloit College are scheduled to start at 1:15 PM Wednesday.
