UW-La Crosse pounded out a season-high 23 hits and scored 17 runs in an easy 17-2 win over Beloit College in the opening round of the NCAA Div. III Midwest Regionals Wednesday.
There were several hitting stars.
Taylor Kohlwey had three hits, five runs batted in and extended his WIAC record hitting streak to 46 straight games.
Two his three hits were home runs.
Justin Anderson had three hits and three runs batted in as well.
He now has 72 runs batted in this season.
That stands fourth best in WIAC history.
Carter Hoffman and Alex Brown each had three hits as well as the Eagles scored in every inning except the third.
Caleb Boushley was the beneficiary of all the offense.
Boushley tossed six shutout innings and improved to 9-0 on the season.
"It's huge. We get out to the lead right away, and a lot of pressure comes off and our team just plays well. Everyone relaxes a little bit and once you see other people hitting then everybody starts to hit and it's just a domino effect and you just keep going," said Anderson, who now has 72 RBI's this season.
"It's more excitement than anything. We know what this tournament is all about, we were here last year. Guys are pumped and ready to go, so yeah, high energy, nervous, but we were ready to go today," said Boushley.
UW-L will play St. John's Thursday at 4:30 in the double-elimination tournament at Copeland Park in La Crosse.
