MILWAUKEE (AP) - Milwaukee County Sheriff Richard Schmidt says law officers did not make a racially charged comment heard on a video recorded during a traffic stop. Schmidt told reporters if his officers had made any racial statements, "they would have been suspended on the spot." A video livestreamed on Facebook shows the black driver asking deputies why they were pointing their guns, and a voice responds, "Because you're not white." Schmidt says his deputies said the comment was made by a man passing through.

MADISON, Wis. (AP) - Two Democratic groups supporting Tony Evers for governor are launching new television ads defending his handling of a case involving a teacher who viewed pornographic images on a school computer. The Democratic Governors Association, through a group called A Stronger Wisconsin, as well as the liberal advocacy group the Greater Wisconsin Committee both unveiled new ads Monday.

MADISON, Wis. (AP) - Gov. Scott Walker's use of the state airplane has increased since he ended his presidential bid in 2015 compared with his first term in office, public records obtained by a liberal attack group released on Monday show. The uptick in using the taxpayer-funded plane came as Walker refocused on Wisconsin amid lagging poll numbers in the wake of his failed presidential run. On average, Walker's flights cost taxpayers an annual average of about $317,000 between September 2015 and April.

MADISON, Wis. (AP) - The University of Wisconsin System plans to ask regents this week to request an additional $107 million in the next state budget. System officials say about $82.5 million would go toward meeting performance-based goals in four areas: student success, student progress toward graduation, workforce contributions and improving efficiency.
