MADISON, Wis. (AP) - In a tack to the left in an election year, Wisconsin Republican Gov. Scott Walker is offering several proposals to boost the state's health insurance market. He wants a state law to guarantee people with pre-existing conditions don't lose health insurance. He also wants the state to join several others in offering reinsurance, a move designed to lower premiums by diffusing insurers' exposure to expensive claims. Democrats accuse Walker of hypocrisy on the issue.
MILWAUKEE (AP) - Organizers are urging marchers in the second annual Woman's March in Milwaukee to take control of Congress from Republicans in 2018. Hundreds of women, men and children gathered on the Milwaukee County Courthouse square on Saturday. Demonstrators carried signs highlighting a broad range of issues, from voter and reproductive rights to immigration reform and climate change. Milwaukee march organizer Sarah Pearson shouted to the crowd, "Get ready in 2018 to take it back."
ABBOTSFORD, Wis. (AP) - Authorities have arrested a suspect in a shooting that killed two people and injured another in central Wisconsin. Officers responded to a 911 call early Saturday about a shooting in the city of Abbotsford and found two people dead in the home. An injured person was taken to the hospital but is expected to survive. Police arrested a male suspect who knew the victims. He's in jail and expected to appear in court Monday. Names of the victims were not released.
PITTSFIELD, Wis. (AP) - A Pittsfield man is dead after a house fire in northeastern Wisconsin. According to the Brown County Sheriff's Office, the home was engulfed in flames when authorities arrived at 8 a.m. Friday. Authorities say the victim lived alone. His name has not been released. The fire apparently started in a kitchen on the first floor and spread to the second floor. More than 40 firefighters battled the blaze. The state fire marshal's office will investigate.
