Onalaska, WI (WXOW) -

This month's Jefferson Award winner is reluctant to accept the award, as many are.  In this case, former Onalaska School District physical education teacher Jim Cappuccio says what he does is part of his job.  That's true, it is.  But those who know him say it's what he does away from his job that makes his work special.

Jim was a driving force behind the Adaptive Sports League.  Without his leadership, resident Marlis O'Brien says her son may not have the opportunity to play on a real sports team.  Marlis' son has special needs and she says Jim has made his life and her family's life better because of all the extra work he does to help all families with special needs children.

While he worked in the school district, Jim worked primarily with students.  In his retirement, he'll work with young adults who have graduated and older adults to make sure they're included in activities many may take for granted.
