Andrew Fregia and Mike Papierski homered and the Thunder Bay Border Cats beat the La Crosse Loggers 5-2 to open the second half of the Northwoods League season.
La Crosse (0-1, 17-20 overall) had won its first four games this season against Thunder Bay (1-0, 7-28) coming into Wednesday's contest.
Griffin Conine's RBI single gave the Loggers a 1-0 lead in the first inning, but Thunder Bay scored the next three runs to take a 3-1 lead after five innings.
La Crosse closed to within 3-2 in the sixth inning on a Kyle Plantier groundout, but Tom Mullin held the Loggers scoreless in the final three innings.
The series continues Thursday night at Copeland Park. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
