One of the area's premier youth soccer programs will be shooting for state titles this weekend.
The Mississippi Valley Storm has three clubs - 15U girls, 11U boys, and 11U girls - competing for youth titles this weekend in Shakopee, Minnesota.
It's a bittersweet moment for the 15U girls team. After sharing the field for four years, they finally broke through with a trip to the championship this summer. Saturday's title game will be their last as a group, however.
"For a lot of us, next year we'll have to split up, so it's like our last game together as a team," West Salem's Laura Burdick said. "So I'm just excited to step out on the field with all my best friends and then just have fun and hopefully win, but just go out and have fun."
The program started in the mid 1990s and draws athletes from around the tri-state region. MVS President Doug Harpenau said the program has more than a dozen teams.
