The Viroqua Blackhawks are trying to end a long drought.
They haven't made the playoffs in 12 years.
There are signs that things are on the upswing.
Viroqua has 50 kids in their program now and they return nine players on both sides of the ball who have varsity experience.
"It's really nice to have this experience. The kids know the offense, they know what we're doing. We're able to practice faster. We were able to work on some of the finer things and get better at those things. In the past, we had to work on just the big picture. Now, we can work on the little things to make that big picture better," said head coach Bill Hannah.
"Everybody on our offensive line has at least two or three years experience. We really look forward to them pushing and opening up some big holes so we can run through them," said tight end/defensive lineman Dalton Hoffland.
Viroqua has finished 1-8 in each of the last two seasons.
