WINNESHIEK COUNTY, Iowa (WXOW) Winneshiek County, Iowa is dealing with major flooding. Through a news release, the Sheriff's Department says the areas of greatest impact are the Freeport and Spillville areas. They say Freeport is undergoing evacuation.
Other areas dealing with severe flooding include Bluffton, Decorah, Fort Atkinson and other areas along rivers and streams.
The Sheriff's Department says an emergency shelter is open at the Stone Ridge Community Church at the intersection of Montgomery Street and Highway 9 in Decorah.
A number of roads are closed within Winneshiek County, but not all have been checked or barricaded because of strained resources. If you have an emergency, please call 911. You can make non-emergency calls at 563-382-4268.
