Chickasaw County authorities identify the driver killed from Wednesday morning's flooding incident.
The Sheriff's Office confirms 77-year-old Albert Gott was killed after his vehicle was swept away by fast-moving water across Union Avenue in Chickasaw County.
Authorities say Gott was on his way to work around 4:38 a.m. Wednesday when he approached a low-lying area of Union covered in water.
The water swept his vehicle to the ditch, and he was able to escape to the roof of his vehicle and call 911.
Authorities say by the time they sent help to the 1100 block of Union Avenue, Gott was no longer on the roof of his vehicle.
Crews searched by air, land, and water Wednesday afternoon, and they were able to find his body near the area he went missing Wednesday afternoon.
The Chickasaw County Sheriff's Office say Gott was from the rural-Sumner area, and they send their heartfelt sympathies to the family.
