Tarek Yaeggi threw for 318 yards and scored two touchdowns as the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse football team beat Carroll University 41-7 on Saturday.
UW-L (3-0) will open Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Association play next Saturday when it hosts UW-River Falls at Roger Harring Stadium.
"We've been able to come out and play with good energy and good tempo and really just get after it and play good football," said senior wide receiver Sam Zwieg. "Really all it is. "
The Eagles scored the game's first 35 points, including two touchdowns via fumble recoveries. Yaeggi completed 28 of 46 passes for 318 yards and a touchdown - he also ran for a score.
It was Ryan Kruser that threw the first touchdown pass though. Yaeggi threw to Kruser behind the line of scrimmage, who then threw it 39 yards to Joel Oxton for the touchdown. Oxton, who had a career-high 145 yards receiving on eight catches, was one of eight different players to catch a pass.
Yaeggi found Trent Milliken for a 13-yard touchdown to increase the lead to 14-0 in the first quarter. Milliken had five catches for 41 yards.
The Eagles got a defensive touchdown early in the second quarter when Matt Williquette returned a fumble 47 yards to make it 21-0. Brock Hertrampf later recovered a fumble in the end zone to make it 35-7 midway through the third quarter.
