Tomah Police said they're referring a Lemonweir School student to Monroe County Human Services after he threatened another student Thursday.
Chief Mark Nicholson said their investigation discovered that two elementary aged students had a altercation on the school's playground. One of the students threatened the other and indicated he had a gun in his backpack. The student didn't have the backpack with him when the threat was made.
When the school found out about the threat, they found the backpack, which contained a BB gun that resembled a real firearm.
Chief Nicholson said in a statement that the student who reported the incident and the school staff involved should be commended for the way they handled the situation.
He added that because of the age of the student, he'll be referred to Monroe County Human Services.
