For those of you looking to pick pumpkins straight from the patch this fall, Shefelbine Orchard and Pumpkin patch in Holmen may have what you need, but you might want to get out there quickly.
The weekend of October 14 is the last weekend to take advantage of Shefelbine's apple orchards and pumpkin patches. Wagon rides are provided to tour the farm, which has been in the apple business for 63 years now, but the pumpkin patches are relatively new.
"[We added pumpkins] about 15 years ago," said owner Doug Shefelbine. "When we started the Pick Your Own Apples, we added pumpkins to it too."
Doug says pumpkins aren't their main product, but they are easy to provide.
"We decided that pumpkins were not worth growing and picking and spending all the labor," said Doug "People want to come out and pick their own, just like they do apples."
The final weekend for picking at Shefelbine Orchard and Pumpkin Patch starts Friday morning at 10:00am and goes until 5:00pm each day.
