Richland Center (WKOW) - A Richland School District bus that was leaving Richland Center High School caught fire moments after leaving campus, according to district officials.
The district says about 15 students ranging from elementary level to high school level were evacuated before the bus went up in flames.
According to an official with the district, the bus driver felt like something was wrong with the bus, pulled over and evacuated the students off the bus to a safe area before it caught fire.
"The little kids on the bus, they were really scared because two of the smaller ones, those were the ones that lost their stuff. But more so, the older kids weren't really scared. We were just kind of nervous about it," said 7th grader Amber Parish.
She says the students on-board were safe because of the quick thinking of their bus driver who got them to safety.
Fire fighters were called to the scene and managed to put out the flames. Nobody was hurt. The district says the bus is a complete loss. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Parents were notified of the incident, according to the district.
