A project two years in the making finally broke ground Wednesday in La Crescent.
Springbrook Assisted Living held a ground breaking ceremony Wednesday that will begin construction on an 80 unit assisted living and senior housing development. It will be one the largest projects in the city's history and bring around 60 new jobs to the city. A long time resident of La Crescent says it will fill a need. A chance for seniors to continue to live in their hometown.
"I hate to see people have to leave town when they have to leave home so there is a dire need. People are getting older, Minnesotans are getting older, there's going to be more senior citizens than school kids in a few years, that means they have to have a place to go if they can't stay home anymore," says project partner Dale Olson, a resident of La Crescent for over 40 years.
The 8.5 million dollar project is expected to be completed fall 2017.
