Fire Prevention Month is here, and there are some simple measures you can take to keep your home free from flames.
Lt. Steven Cash with the La Crosse Fire Department said they're busy getting the word out about not only checking smoke detectors and changing batteries, but also checking the units themselves for the expiration date. Lt. Cash said if the unit is more than 10 years old, according to the manufacture date on the back, it's time to replace it.
There are also some preventative measures to take when it comes to the arrival of heating season. Lt. Cash suggested getting furnace equipment checked and serviced by a certified professional, as well as making sure any heating equipment is at least three feet from flammable objects.
