The Trempealeau County man charged with trying to kill a woman and child in a La Crescent stabbing made his second court appearance Wednesday.
Prosecutors say Sean Kasten, 27, stabbed a woman and a child as all three rode in a car on June 28. Police say he was riding in the passenger seat when he stabbed the woman, then a three-year-old girl in the backseat, then a dog, also in the back seat. He then turned the knife on himself, stabbing and slashing his stomach.
The woman told police Kasten had stayed at her home the night before the attack and began acting strangely as she drove him home. All of the victims survived.
The purpose of Kasten's court appearance Wednesday was to advise him of his legal rights. He's due back in court November 22.
