Eagles open NCAA Tournament with sweep of St. Thomas

Stephanie Henk and Jill Entinger tallied 13 kills apiece and the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse volleyball team opened the 2016 Division III Women's Volleyball Championship with a 3-0 win over St. Thomas Thursday night.

UW-L (23-5) will face Northwestern-St. Paul in the second round Friday night at 7 p.m. at Ericksen Center in St. Paul.

The Eagles won the opening set 25-18 after pulling away late. Henk and Entinger combined for the final four kills.

With the score tied 14-14 in set two, UW-L won four of the next six points to pull away for a 25-22 win, and a 2-0 match lead.

The third set started with a 10-1 run for the Eagles, but the Tommies rallied to tie the set 21-21. Henk recorded her 13th kill of the night to give UW-L the lead back, and Ashley Entinger later tallied the final blow to close out the set at 25-23.
