A popular Northside restaurant is closing its doors after 70 years in La Crosse.
Maid-Rite opened in La Crosse in 1947 on Caledonia Street. Richard Beilke bought the diner 26 years ago and due to personal reasons, decided to close the business. Customers packed the diner on Tuesday to get their last taste of Maid-Rite's famous sandwiches.
Beilke says, he'll miss coming to work everyday and talking to his customers.
"Well it's life you know I go home at night, live alone, it's quiet, I can relax, but then I enjoy coming in in the morning and seeing the people. I deliver to a lot of shut-ins and stuff and regulars that I'm going to miss, they're going to miss me," says Beilke.
Maid-Rite has over 35 locations throughout the Midwest. Their La Crosse location was the only one in Wisconsin.
