One local business has stepped up to the occasion. Festival Foods donated money raised from cookie sales to the Gundersen Medical Foundation. The money was raised for cancer research in honor of the Stepping Out in Pink organization. It will be used locally at Gundersen Hospital.
"Not only are shoppers helping Fund some good research, they are also, we are creating awareness with them, you know there is still a lot of work to be done out there to help with breast cancer," said Mark Skogen, President and CEO of Festival Foods.
"It takes a lot to have a cancer research institute going and the research we want to continue, we just got a genome sequencing machine and that will help better target cancers that patients have. We also have a bio bank with now over 20,000 cancer cells that are documented," said Debbie Kroner, Associate Director of Development at Gundersen.
Festival foods started the cookie fundraiser in 2012 and has raised more than $19,000 in five years. Other events that Festival Foods hosts include the annual wine and beer tasting, and the Melon Up! Pink Ribbon Watermelon program.
