Winter storm dumps foot of snow, causes crashes in Minnesota

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - A winter storm blowing across southern Minnesota has dumped up to a foot of light, fluffy snow, making road slicks and causing hundreds of crashes.

The Minnesota State Patrol has responded to 600 crashes statewide since Saturday morning and more than 220 spinouts. No fatal or serious injuries are reported.

Redwood Falls in southwestern Minnesota reports just over a foot of snow Sunday. Nine inches of snow fell on Pine Island and Le Center.

National Weather Service meteorologist Eric Ahasic says the Twin Cities should see 5 to 6 inches of snow by the time the storm winds down around noon Sunday.

Cold weather moves in after the storm. Ahasic says the Twin Cities could see its first below-zero day of the season Tuesday.
