The Sara Hougom Memorial Fund and Moose Lodge donated $1000 to the La Crosse Police K9-unit.
The K9-unit is funded through donations, which pays for food, equipment, training, and any medical costs. Sargent John Wenger says the dogs are an important tool for the department and typically get used at least three to five times a shift.
"They're used for apprehension, handler protection, missing children or adults, if they can pick up a track they can find out where they went, traffic stops, last month we actually recovered a lot of drugs from the traffic stops," said Sgt Wenger.
If you would like to contribute to the K9-unit, you can drop off donations at the police station during regular business hours. Checks can be made out to the La Crosse Police Department K9-unit, and are tax deductible.
