La Crosse's Storytelling Festival is this weekend at Myrick Park.
2017 is the festival's 15th year in La Crosse, maintaining its status as the only storytelling festival in Wisconsin.
Event officials attempt to create a family friendly environment, with tents specifically for children as well as adults.
The festival is organized in an effort to show the city of La Crosse the benefits that can be found from listening to a good story.
Chair of the La Crosse Storytelling Festival, Sara Slayton, elaborates on the power of story, "When you tell a story people begin to identify and they begin to personalize what they are hearing."
Slayton continues, "So everybody in that tent who is hearing the same story is seeing it differently, is imagining it differently, is taking different messages from it."
The storytelling festival would not have been possible without volunteers from the University of Wisconsin - La Crosse, and the surrounding community.
