Governor Scott Walker is asking the federal government to help people and businesses affected by July flooding in La Crosse and Trempealeau counties.
The governor's office requested the assistance from the Small Business Administration (SBA).
Damage assessments done by the SBA showed 67 homes and businesses with major damage and 160 homes and businesses with minor damage. Besides La Crosse and Trempealeau, Buffalo, Vernon, Monroe, and Jackson are included in the request.
If approved, low-interest loans up to $200,000 would be available to homeowners to repair or replace damaged or destroyed homes, while homeowners and renters could be eligible for up to $40,000 to repair or replace damaged or destroyed personal property. Low-interest loans up to $2 million would also be available to businesses for physical damage and economic loss as a result of the flooding according to the governor's office.
