Conference play kicks off this weekend in the WIAC. UW-La Crosse football aims to keep their hot start to the season going, but to do so, they'll have to take down fellow undefeated UW-Stevens Point on the road.
UW-L's proven its mettle on defense so far, allowing just 27 points through its non-conference schedule. But they'll be put to the test in the WIAC opener against the league's only offense averaging more than 500 yards in each of its first three games.
"They have two tremendous wide receivers on the outside," said head coach Mike Schmidt. "Their wide receiving corps. is really deep. They're huge. They're massive on both sides up front, so those things present a problem for us...We just really need to stay on schedule on offense and find a way to limit some of those big, huge, explosive plays on defense."
Defensive lineman Brandon McKandes added, "They have a very big O-line, but I just think if we can do our technique right and do what we need to do, we'll be fine."
The pointers have won the last three meetings between the two teams. Saturday's edition kicks off at 6 p.m. in Stevens Point.
