UW-La Crosse head coach Mike Schmidt is already the only football coach in school history to begin his career winning his first five games.
That was last season.
But you could argue that the Eagles picked up their first signature win last week at Stevens Point.
The Eagles rolled to a 35-13 win over a Pointers squad that was undefeated coming in.
UW-L dominated both sides of the ball.
It was one of those wins the program needs if they want to re-join the conference's elite.
"I think our players and certainly our coaching staff knows, Stevens Point is one of those teams that's in that bunch with us. We had to beat them and keep climbing to reach our target to get to where our target needs to get to at the top. That's all that it means. For this team, it means that we're pretty good," Schmidt said.
"It's definitely a complete program win. We were good in all facets of the game, offense, defense and special teams. It was the first time we beat Stevens Point in a while," said senior Linebacker Noah Risch.
The Eagles play UW-Eau Claire this Saturday at Harring Stadium.
You can see that game on WXOW 19 with the pregame show at 11:00 AM and the kickoff set for 11:35 AM.
