Verona, WI (WXOW) -

The Aquinas girls golf team turned a one stroke lead after day one of the WIAA State Golf Meet into a 15 stroke victory Tuesday thanks to stellar play up and down their line-up.

Annie Balduzzi shot an 82 Tuesday to finish sixth overall in division two.

Teammate Shealyn McCoy was right behind her with a seventh place finish after shooting an 87 Tuesday.

Kaitlyn MacCharles carded a 93 in round two to finish in a tie for 15th and Olivia Fox finished in 22nd place in division two.

The result was the first ever WIAA state girls golf title for Aquinas.

"These girls are tough as nails.  I would go anywhere with them.  I'd do anything for them and I couldn't be more proud of them," said head coach Andy Foley.
"Towards the end, over the last few holes, Coach Foley would update me on how we were doing and how close we were to the other teams.  So I knew we had a little leeway but I knew we had to keep fighting and not mess up I guess,' said Balduzzi.
"I just wanted to do really well for my team because it's my senior year and all three seniors just wanted to do really well today.  So, that was my motivation behind everything," McCoy said.

Aquinas finished with a team total of 717.

Edgewood was second with a 732.

In division one, Onalaska finished in seventh place overall with a team score of 697.

Erin Ericson shot an 80 Tuesday and finished tenth overall.

Kate Chafoulias had a 94 on day two and took 33rd in division one.

Arrowhead was the team champ with a score of 630.
