An update on the thefts from a number of yards and cemeteries in a four county area that were traced back to a person from Independence.

Thursday afternoon, Independence Police posted a picture on their Facebook page of more than 200 gazing balls that they recovered.

On Wednesday, the department released information that said a person from Independence admitted to taking thousands of items from yards and cemeteries over the past two to three years.

Police said that they are still processing items found at the home. They added it may be a few days before they'll start releasing the items back to their owners.

In a reply on Facebook, the department asked that anyone inquiring about the stolen items to email them at indpd@tcc.coop rather than calling.

The suspect in the thefts still has not been identified by the department.
