Schools in the La Crosse area ate 2,000 apples Thursday.
As part of the Farm2school program, the schools hosted the Great Apple Crunch to celebrate one of the region's most ample crops.
Farm2school is a program that focuses on teaching nutrition, and eating healthy and locally sourced foods.
Every month farmers from the area come with a sample of their latest crops. Students get to taste, some for the first time, a variety of different vegetables like snap peas and butternut squash.
The hope is that these kids, that come from various different backgrounds and incomes, will leave school with the ability to lead healthier life styles, and to inspire their parents and siblings to do the same.
